Tomorrow Oliver starts a class with other toddlers (0-3 year olds) who are on the autism spectrums. The class is called CUBS (an acronym that stands for Communication, Understanding, Behavior, Socialization) and blends Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, and Applied Behavior Analysis. Oliver, as well as all of the other children, will have a curriculum and treatment plan that is specifically designed to meet their individual needs. The program is centered around: effective instructional strategies, activity-based instruction, developmentally appropriate practices, functional behavior analysis, and parent coaching/support. Oliver will be also receiving speech therapy, occupational therapy, and feeding therapy, in addition to continuing weekly visits from the Special Educator that he’s already seeing. I’m so excited for him to start this program and to connect with the other parents. I’ll be posting how his first day went tomorrow and will post updates on progress, as time goes on.
